Join Heather and Lauren of North Simcoe Muskoka Geriatrics Services, as you learn about the benefits of socializing, easy exercises, healthy eating, tips to prevent falls, and small changes you can make at home to support comfortable aging. We’ll also help you create thoughtful plans for aging well at home, focusing on taking positive steps for long-term health, safety, and a good quality of life. Whether you’re an older adult, a caregiver, or a family member, this session is packed with helpful tools to support confident and healthy living at home.
Heather McDonald is grateful to support North Simcoe Muskoka Specialized Geriatrics Services as an Advanced Practice Clinician and is currently leading a capacity building project in improving early identification of geriatric syndromes.
Heather is a dedicated occupational therapist with over 20 years of experience, the majority of which was spent at St.?Michael’s Hospital, where she built a strong foundation in clinical practice and collaboration. She is also a respected clinical educator and instructor. She holds a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Toronto and has specialized expertise in geriatric mental health. Throughout her career, Heather has also been deeply committed to education, having taught and mentored numerous students and emerging professionals. She is an active volunteer and library user in her community in North Simcoe.
Lauren Cassell is with the Patient/Client and Family Council in Midland and North Simcoe Muskoka Geriatrics Services. Her lived experience as a care partner for her father with dementia and her late grandmother with frailty has shaped her passion for supporting older adults and their caregivers. She brings firsthand insight into the value of community, independence, and emotional support in aging. She is dedicated to advocating for better services that enhance quality of life for seniors and their families.
