Massie Family Community Room

Do you have a broken item at home that needs a repair? Bring it to the Repair Café and learn how to repair it alongside our Fixers!

At the Repair Café, one of our handy volunteers will help you fix your broken item. The main goal of the Repair Café is to facilitate community collaboration and to kindle people's enthusiasm for a sustainable society. Learn a new skill, save money, and help the environment. Don't replace it, repair it!

Registration:

The Repair Café runs from 10am-1pm. Register for one of the two available registration windows:

10-11:30 or 11:30-1. Click on the register button above to register for the first window, 10:00-11:30. If you prefer to register for the second window (11:30-1) click here.

Good to know:

  • A volunteer fixer will help you fix your item sometime during the registration window. While you wait, watch other repairs and learn something new, chat with community members who are interested in fixing and sustainability, watch a demo, or browse our book table and find your next read.
  • Fixers are volunteers. Repairs are not guaranteed, but Fixers do their best.
  • If you know your repair requires parts, please bring those parts. Fixers have all the basic tools.
  • What can be fixed? This depends on the skill set of our volunteers. Our current volunteer Fixers are great with electrical (lamps, wiring, etc.) We do not fix electronics (cell phones, laptops, etc.). Tell us a bit about your item when you register, we will follow up with you if we need more information or to suggest any parts you might need to bring.
  • This is a learning opportunity for all involved. This is not a drop-off event. We encourage visitors to sit with the Fixer, learn about what they're doing, and lend a hand. It's about figuring it out, together.

Participants, please review the House Rules.

  • Maximum 1-item for repair. If you bring other items you will only be able to have them fixed if there is available time after other registrants have been served.
  • The work carried out in the Repair Café is performed free of charge on a voluntary basis by the repair experts at hand.
  • Visitors carry out the repairs themselves whenever possible, but repair experts on site can help if necessary.
  • The fact that the repairs are being performed by unpaid volunteers reflects the allocation of risks and limitation of liability: neither the organizers of the Repair Café nor the repair experts are liable for any loss that may result from advice or instructions concerning repairs, for the loss of items handed over for repair, for indirect or consequential loss or for any other kind of loss resulting from work performed in the Repair Café. The limitations set forth in these house rules shall not apply to claims declared justified on the basis of liability arising by virtue of applicable consumer protection legislation which cannot be lawfully superseded.
  • We may not have all the tools, supplies and resources to repair your item.
  • New parts or materials required for a repair shall be provided by the visitor.
  • Visitors offering broken items for repair do so at their own risk.
  • Experts making repairs offer no guarantee for the repairs carried out with their help and are not liable if objects that are repaired in the Repair Café turn out not to work properly at home.
  • Repair experts are entitled to refuse to repair certain objects.
  • Repair experts are not obliged to reassemble disassembled appliances that cannot be repaired.
  • Visitors to Repair Café are solely responsible for the tidy removal of broken objects that could not be repaired.
