This is a program where tails wag and stories come to life! Do you love animals? Want to become a more confident reader? Join our Pet Therapy Reading Buddies – a heartwarming program that pairs readers (or anyone who enjoys a good story) with friendly, trained therapy animals for relaxed, judgment-free reading time. Enjoy calm, comforting time with certified therapy pets. Reduce stress and boost emotional well-being and make reading fun and rewarding! Each participant gets one-on-one time to read to a trained therapy animal, supported by a handler and our friendly volunteers. Whether you're a shy reader, a lifelong bookworm, or someone who just loves animals, our furry friends are here to listen – no pressure, no corrections, just wagging tails and open ears.
Empower Simcoe has been a cornerstone of support for individuals with intellectual disabilities since 1953 and is committed to fostering inclusion, independence, and meaningful connections for all they serve. The therapy dogs will be arriving with their owners, all of whom are certified.
Our Downtown Branch is centrally located in the Downtown core at the corner of Worsley and Owen Streets. The building and facilities are fully accessible. Enjoy a beverage or a small snack from our Café located inside the lobby, use our complimentary wifi, experiment with technology and maker tools, or soak up the sun on our Rooftop Reading Garden.
