Join us on the rooftop patio for and enjoyable hour of soothing music and participate in a short mindfulness exercises too!
Each year, 7 libraries in Simcoe County select a local Champion and book they believe everyone in Simcoe County should read. Our selection this year is How to Calm Your Mind: Finding Presence and Productivity in Anxious Times by Chris Bailey. "How to Calm Your Mind" is a crucial guide to achieving calm, navigating anxiety, and staving off burnout. It explains how our digital world drains us, and what we can do to abate the hidden sources of stress that burden our days.
So in that spirit, we invite you to join us for an hour of calming music and a short meditation exercise. We will unplug for a moment and enjoy, as coined in the book, a “stimulation fasts,” to help us become more focused and present, and to relax without guilt. Music will be provided by Rebekah Hawker
Self-deprecating, and consistently hilarious, Rebekah Hawker smiles often and easily onstage; and it takes only one look through a typical crowd to see her energy is contagious. Her musical style moves freely between the traditional definitions of country and folk music with a powerful voice that seemingly explodes from within her and reveals the refined craftsmanship and intention of her songs.
Her debut single 'Round of Fools' was placed on Spotify's 'Fresh Finds' editorial playlist and Starbuck's Official Country playlist. In 2020 Rebekah’s song ‘Catch You’ won Folk Music Ontario’s Songs from the Heart award and in 2022 she was selected as an official showcasing artist at their annual conference. She was recently a selected participant in the RBC Music Entrepreneurship Program at Daniels Launchpad Toronto. With support from both FACTOR and Ontario Arts Council she will be releasing her newest single ‘Ticket’ this coming September 2023.
A mindfulness exercise will be offered by Natasha Stasiuk
Natasha Stasiuk is a Certified Facilitator of the Mindfulness Ambassador Program. Natasha makes practicing mindfulness part of her daily life and teaches mindfulness workshops to youth in schools to bring the many benefits of mindfulness concepts and skills into the lives of young people.
