Join us as we welcome a very special guest. Second World War veteran William Snow will visit to talk about his experiences.
Second World War Veteran William Snow was born in Newfoundland in 1922. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in Toronto in 1943. He served with the 1st Canadian Radar Battery in the 1st Canadian Infantry Battalion. He arrived in France just after the D-Day invasion, in June 1944. While overseas, Snow’s responsibilities included spotting targets for the artillery corps when they were fighting in the Northwest Campaign through France, Holland, Belgium and Germany.
On his 100th birthday, celebrated in 2022, he was presented with special certificates from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Premier Doug Ford and Governor General Mary Simon. There was one very special certificate that shocked everyone and it read “I send you my warmest congratulations on this happy occasion and good wishes for an enjoyable day”. It was signed Elizabeth the Second.
Today, William (Bill) Snow is 101 years old, and has lived in Barrie for more than 50 years.
