The S.S. Waubuno – Legend and Lore with Jamie Hunter (Former Director/Curator - Huronia Museum, Midland)

Join us for a fascinating talk about one of the most mysterious tragedies on the inland waters of Canada!

Having collected historical and archaeological details about the S.S. Waubuno for fifty years, Jamie Hunter has incorporated these into an illustrated talk about one of the most mysterious tragedies on the inland waters of Canada. As a ten-year old, his interest was stimulated by the discovery of a fire box grate in 1963 at Wreck Island in Georgian Bay, located where part of the Waubuno wreck came ashore on November 22, 1879.

Jamie Hunter is a retired director/curator and archaeologist from Midland. He retrieved and preserved the Waubuno rudder and other artefacts for the collections of the Huronia Museum. It was his lifelong dream to share this extraordinary story with the public, and in 2021 that dream was fulfilled as he and co-author Eric McIntyre published S.S. Waubuno - Legend and Lore; they dedicated it to all 25 passengers and crew who died in the disaster. It will be for sale following the talk. All welcome. Bring a friend!
