Estate Planning for Blended Families

Simcoe Money Management Series

While finding love the second or maybe even the third or more time around is a wonderful thing, blended family relationships can make estate and tax planning very complicated.

Register to attend online. Click the register button.

This program will not be recorded, please plan to attend in-person or virtually on the day of the event.

Where there are children from previous relationships the most common question is “How do I provide for my spouse while still preserving my assets for my children?”? Tax law provides benefits when transferring assets to spouses which are not available for transfers of assets to children.? The tax consequences of estate planning for blended families will therefore often inform decisions.? This presentation will demonstrate the importance of good estate and tax planning for blended families. We will explore the interplay between estate, tax and family law as well as options for balancing the goals of support to a surviving spouse and preservation of assets for children.

A Tax and Estate Planner with TD Wealth, Georgia brings 28 years of experience to estate planning and tax matters.? Prior to joining TD Wealth in 2017 Georgia practiced tax, estate planning and administration law as well as family law in central Ontario.? Georgia is certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a specialist in Taxation Law and in Estates and Trusts Law; she teaches Income Tax at the Faculty of Law, University of Windsor and is a frequent speaker on topics ranging from estates and trusts law and technical tax issues to family law for various organizations as well as on BNN Money Talks.
