Teri will discuss the pros and cons of each asset class: cash, bonds and stocks, and review their performance over time. For investors looking to manage their own money, Teri will cover the basics of building a portfolio using exchange-traded funds (ETFs) or mutual funds.

Topics covered in this presentation are: 

1. Investment returns and risks of cash, bonds and stocks

2. What are ETFs and mutual funds?

3. The advantage of index funds

4. What are some easy do-it-yourself investing strategies?


Teri Courchene earned master’s degrees in economics and in education.  In her first career as an economist, she was Director of Economic Research at a major bank. In her second career, Teri taught at her own small Montessori school for 10 years. More recently, she taught investing for 5 years at the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies. 

Her lifelong interest in teaching and her experience in the financial world come together in her current roles as a math tutor and a finance and investing coach.
