Save a plastic bag. Learn sewing skills while making reusable fabric community bags for customers to take and return from participating local stores.
Volunteers can help with any of the following tasks:
Boomerang Bags Barrie has a large goal that can only be accomplished with small and meaningful motions. They are working together to establish a support network for the Barrie Downtown that will eventually be extended to other neighbourhoods throughout the city in order to encourage plastic bag alternatives. Their mission is to start a conversation about consumption and action through community mobilization.
Boomerang Bags Barrie is working to provide free reusable bags fabricated out of locally recycled textiles to shops in the Downtown core that can be borrowed by shoppers who have forgotten their reusable bags. Community members donate fabric and other textiles which are then transformed into reusable bags by volunteer sewers. The bags can later be returned to any participating location in Barrie for another forgetful environmentalist to use.
