Ontario Public Library Week Special Event

Join BPL staff and supporters for a free public screening of The Librarians documentary, along with an open conversation on libraries and freedom of expression.

The Librarians is a documentary film that debuted at Sundance Film Festival in 2025, directed and produced by Kim A. Snyder: "As an unprecedented wave of book banning is sparked in Texas, Florida, and beyond, librarians under siege join forces as unlikely defenders fighting for intellectual freedom on the front lines of democracy."

Join us at the Georgian Theatre for a free screening of the film, alongside a wide-ranging discussion with library professionals on challenges faced by public libraries and how best to support freedom of expression in your community.

Showtime: 6:30pm 

From 6-6:30pm, members of the Barrie Public Library leadership team will be having an open conversation about freedom of expression, the current landscape in Canada, as well as how libraries serve our diverse communities. Audience Q&A will take place if time allows.

The Librarians documentary screening will begin at 6:30pm (1h32m run time)
