THRIVE: Our Voices in Motion

Gathering Place, Angus Ross Room, Massie Family Community RoomJoin us for an arts-based Black History Month program for youth that explores identity, resilience, and creative self-expression through literature, lived experience, and performance.
The program is anchored by a short excerpt from Johnny Lightning and the Magic Yellow Yam by local author Roxann Whittingham, which introduces themes of being judged, reframing difference, and discovering purpose. These themes are then deepened through a youth-safe spoken-word performance, titled 'This Woman', which models how personal experiences can be transformed into artistic expression.
Participants are guided to reflect on these stories and create original works, poetry, music, drama, visual art, or movement?that express their own voices. The session concludes with 'optional' sharing and reflection in a supportive environment that affirms youth identity and creativity.
