Social Skills

with the Learning Disabilities Association of York-Simcoe

Register for this free 6-week program for kids ages 8-12 with a learning disability and/or ADHD. LDAYS coaches will work with students on a variety of social skills in a fun and interactive format.

This program focuses on social development skills, and is facilitated by registered social service workers. Content is based on the PEERS® curriculum for social skills training.

What social and emotional skills will be learned?

• Interpersonal skills. i.e. communication, listening, friendship skills
• Coping with emotions and stress
• Conflict resolution and problem solving
• Self advocacy
• Self esteem
• Bullying and cyberbullying topics

Who is the program designed for?

This co-ed program is designed for children ages 8 to 12 with a primary diagnosis of a learning disability and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) who may:

• Avoid social contact
• Behave immaturely
• Be shy or timid in groups
• Frequently fight with peers
• Display a lack of self-esteem and self-confidence
• Enjoy meeting other children with LD and/or ADHD

About the Course:

• 6 week program
• Classes are 1 hour per week
• Maximum of 8 children per class
• Accredited group leaders

Please note: first time participants must provide a copy of child?s Psycho-educational Assessment. Children must have a primary diagnosis of LD and/or ADHD to be eligible.
