Editors have a deliciously notorious reputation. Cut that character! Rewrite that section! Show, don't tell! Whether you're a short story writer, budding journalist or poet, if you've ever sat with your palms over your eyes at the 11th hour before a deadline, you've probably considered consulting the dark side. What does an editor actually do?
This month, freelance editor and Editors Canada Ambassador Lisa Hislop will lift the veil on the skills and services editors have to offer (which are unfortunately much less ominous than we pretend). You're welcome to pop in and listen or come prepared to challenge her with your toughest editing questions.
Lisa Hislop is a professional editor specializing in the preparation of short stories, anthologies, and collections for submission, query, and publication. She offers editing services, story coaching, and workshops, all aimed toward the mastery of the short story form. Lisa is a founding member of the Neurodivergent Publishing Conference, an ambassador for Editors Canada, and a reader for Flash Fiction Magazine. She holds a Certificate in Editing from Simon Fraser University and a BA in French literature from the University of British Columbia. You can find her at www.theshortstoryeditor.com
