Waste less and fix more! Bring your broken household items in need of some love to the Repair Café! Disclaimer: We cannot guarantee fixers for all items. LIMITED DROP-IN spaces available day of.

Drop-In - There is also limited space for minor bike, sewing, and general repairs which will be accepted on a first-come, first served basis.

  • Based on current registrations, our Fixers have more availability for sewing and bike drop-ins, but these may fill up during the day.

Why buy something new if you can fix what you already have? The Repair Café "fixers' are sharing a variety of skills to help you fix common household items. Refer to the list of items that includes what you can and cannot bring. Participants, please review the House Rules.


House Rules

  • Maximum 1-item for repair. If you bring other items you will only be able to have them fixed if you stand in line and there are open appointments.
  • Appointments are a maximum of 20-minutes.
  • The work carried out in the Repair Café is performed free of charge on a voluntary basis by the repair experts at hand.
  • Visitors carry out the repairs themselves whenever possible, but repair experts on site can help if necessary.
  • The fact that the repairs are being performed by unpaid volunteers reflects the allocation of risks and limitation of liability: neither the organizers of the Repair Café nor the repair experts are liable for any loss that may result from advice or instructions concerning repairs, for the loss of items handed over for repair, for indirect or consequential loss or for any other kind of loss resulting from work performed in the Repair Café. The limitations set forth in these house rules shall not apply to claims declared justified on the basis of liability arising by virtue of applicable consumer protection legislation which cannot be lawfully superseded. 
  • We may not have all the tools, supplies and resources to repair your item.
  • Visitors offering broken items for repair do so at their own risk.  
  • Experts making repairs offer no guarantee for the repairs carried out with their help and are not liable if objects that are repaired in the Repair Café turn out not to work properly at home.  
  • Repair experts are entitled to refuse to repair certain objects.
  • Repair experts are not obliged to reassemble disassembled appliances that cannot be repaired.
  • Visitors to Repair Café are solely responsible for the tidy removal of broken objects that could not be repaired.

Acceptable Items

Small household appliances, small wood items, children's toys, clothing, household textiles

Unacceptable Items

Items that need welding, furniture, electronics, digital (subject to review, please Register for consideration), refrigeration equipment, gas-powered equipment, items from other countries with different currents, very large/heavy items.

This program is offered in partnership with Living Green Barrie.


We are looking for volunteer fixers for upcoming events! Fixers do not need to be professionals. Hobbyists and fixing enthusiasts are welcome!! We're looking for people who can fix electronics, furniture, bikes, simple sewing.. and more. Visit the Library website to apply as a volunteer.

  • The main goal of the Repair Cafe is to facilitate community collaboration and to kindle people's enthusiasm for a sustainable society.

About the branch

Our Downtown Branch is centrally located in the Downtown core at the corner of Worsley and Owen Streets. The building and facilities are fully accessible. Enjoy a beverage or a small snack from our Café located inside the lobby, use our complimentary wifi, experiment with technology and maker tools, or soak up the sun on our Rooftop Reading Garden.
