Join us as Aruna Papp, advocate and educator for violence again women, guides us through the events of the École Polytechnique massacre (Dec 6, 1989) which led to the establishment of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Aruna will walk us through the lessons learned from that fateful day, the policies it shaped and the equitable actions we must continue employ to ensure history doesn’t repeat itself.
About the Presenter:
Aruna Papp is a nationally and internationally recognized educator and advocate of human rights. Her focus is on women’s rights in cross-cultural perspectives. She has written extensively on the issues facing immigrant women in Canada, and culturally rooted gender-based violence. For the past four decades, Aruna has also worked as a Policy Analyst for the government. Her book “Unworthy Creature: A Punjabi Daughter’s Memoir of Honour, Shame and Love” is on recommended reading lists in several universities.
