About Nancy:
As a teen, Nancy would sit into the wee hours of the morning listening to her father and his sister talk about the grandparents she never knew. As her aunt only visited once a year, the visits were eagerly anticipated. Back then there were no computers or giant databases full of information waiting to be searched. It was pencil and paper, writing letters to far off organizations hoping that some kind soul would respond. And more often than not, they did, one gentleman remarking that he hoped she wouldn’t be offended that he and another were discussing her query while standing in line at the bank. Now, some fifty years later, it is Nancy’s turn to give back.
For the past 15 years Nancy has volunteered with the Simcoe County Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society. She initially joined the group as their Newsletter Editor and her love of history and writing were combined to produce “Researching Your Ancestors in Simcoe County, A Study in Migratory Patterns and Family History” for the Branch in 2012. This is the book she would love to have had when starting to research her Simcoe County roots back in the early 1990’s. Through the years her role in the Branch expanded to include website development and in 2015, she became the Branch Chair.
