About Kathleen:
Kathleen is a retired elementary school teacher who became interested in family history about 1980 after she was assigned the care of the Family Bible and inherited two family stories, one from her maternal grandmother and one from her paternal grandfather. She learned from the birth, death and marriage pages in the bible that she had just moved into the city where her 5th great grandfather had lived. Those stories and that bible sparked her interest. She started attending genealogy meetings as a guest and did a lot of research in the old Barrie Library but was not really able to dedicate as much time to genealogy as she would have liked until she retired from teaching in 2010. Early on she became a member of the Ontario Genealogical Society and the Simcoe County Branch of the Genealogical Society and for the past 12 years has been volunteering as a member of the Executive. She holds the position of Places of Worship Coordinator and Education Coordinator and has completed the Professional Genealogist Certification Program offered by the National Institute of Genealogical Studies. Kathleen has conducted research in record centers across Canada and the US, and overseas in Dublin, Belfast and in Graz, Austria. She has authored her own family history and recently authored a book on the history of Barrie Churches. Kathleen continues to work on her own family history and is more than willing to assist others with their family research. She enjoys being a family history detective.
