Come prepared to learn as knowledge keepers share about the value of the water and indigenous traditions that sustain nature. This walk will be followed by a traditional feast with samples served.
Start the walk at Southshore Centre, finish at Minet's Point Beach with a traditional feast to follow at the Kiwanis Pavilion. Based on the Water Walks started by Ojibway Grandmother, Josephine Mandamin, the Water Walks are founded in the spirit of truth and reconciliation. We invite you to share a path with all residents of Barrie and walk symbolically together towards a new relationship grounded in peace, friendship, and mutual respect through the collective experience of walking for the water. After the walk, stay to participate in a traditional feast, with samples of stew, rice, vegetables and berries. Learn the value of each food item and share together as we close the Shining Water Nibi Walks.
Please leave your pets at home, dogs are not permitted at the Nibi Walks. A reminder that women do not handle sacred items or take part in ceremony during their Moontime.
