Come prepared to listen and learn as knowledge keepers share about the life sustaining value of the water and indigenous traditions and practices that sustain our environment and nature.
Based on the Water Walks started by Ojibway Grandmother, Josephine Mandamin, the Water Walks are founded in the spirit of truth and reconciliation. We invite you to share a path with all residents of Barrie and walk ‘symbolically together towards a new relationship grounded in peace, friendship, and mutual respect through the collective experience of Walking for the Water’. It is our goal to incorporate a youth component to the walk, connecting elders with the next generation as together we uphold the sacredness and purity of Kempenfelt Bay.
Join us at the Kempenfelt Bay Waterfront for these hosted Shining Waters Nibi Walks on Saturdays:
June 4 – Start the walk beside the Sea Serpent at Heritage Park, finish walk at the Spirit Catcher
June 11 – Start the walk beside the Spirit Catcher, finish the walk at Centennial Beach
June 18 – Start the walk at Centennial Beach, finish the walk at Southshore Centre
June 25 – Start the walk at Southshore Centre, finish the walk at Minet’s Point Beach with a traditional feast to follow at the Kiwanis Pavilion
NOTE: Please leave your pets at home, no animals allowed on the Water Walks.
