Learn ways to talk with your children about essential and important topics. Four families in our diverse panel led discussion share how they approach and create an open and safe space for discussion.

Meet our panelists:

• Christine - I am the mother of 10 children ages 5-27. We have homeschooled all along with the exception of a couple years when some of the children went to Christian schools. I love to say yes, but when I say no, it’s no.
• Heather - I am the mother of two children-aged 10 and 12. My husband and I believe in setting expectations for our kids, teaching them about responsibility, appreciating the value of a dollar, respecting one another, avoiding unnecessary drama, and teaching them about kindness and inclusivity.
• Carolina -I am the mother of 3 girls and bonus mom to another one, ranging from ages 4-19. My specialty as a parent is talking about feelings and difficult situations - I never shy away from a difficult conversation (I actually enjoy them! Does that make me weird? lol). I can be a fun mom and I love to play! But I'm also quite firm in the rules and boundaries we have for our home.
• Cameron - I am a 39-year old father of four. Meghan, is my partner-in-crime and much better half, we’ve been together for 20 years and we have been in Barrie for around 2 years. Before that, we were in Vancouver for a decade, and Newmarket area before that. We have four kids between the ages of 3-9.

Meet our moderator:

Our moderator Amber Beckett is lead instructor at The Hello Code, professional talker-to-strangers, Area Director for Toastmasters and an exceptional hugger. Amber believes social disconnection is the biggest threat to our society and is not afraid to proclaim it. Leveraging her degree in science and past lives as a 911 call-taker, a facilitator for the Simcoe County District School Board, and a conversation cafe host in Japan, she has a natural way of asking questions and putting the people around her at ease. She recommends we all spend more time in conversation, connecting, and listening to each other’s stories.
